Dissolution and Dispersion of Carboxymethyl Cellulose

The quality of carboxymethyl cellulose CMC mainly depends on the solution of the product. If the product solution is clear, there are less gel particles, less free fibers, and less black spots of impurities. Basically, it can be determined that the quality of carboxymethyl cellulose is very good. .

Dissolution and Dispersion of Carboxymethyl Cellulose Products
Mix carboxymethylcellulose directly with water to prepare a pasty gum solution for use. When configuring carboxymethyl cellulose slurry, first use a stirring device to add a certain amount of clear water into the batching tank. After turning on the stirring device, slowly and evenly sprinkle the carboxymethyl cellulose into the batching tank, and stir continuously to make the carboxymethyl cellulose and water completely fused, and the carboxymethyl cellulose can be completely melted.

When dissolving carboxymethyl cellulose, the purpose of uniform dispersion and constant stirring is to “prevent caking, reduce the dissolved amount of carboxymethyl cellulose, and increase the dissolution rate of carboxymethyl cellulose”. Typically, the stirring time is much shorter than the time required for the carboxymethylcellulose to completely melt.

During the stirring process, if the carboxymethyl cellulose is uniformly dispersed in the water without obvious large lumps, and the carboxymethyl cellulose and water can statically penetrate and fuse, the stirring can be stopped. The mixing speed is generally between 600-1300 rpm, and the stirring time is generally controlled at about 1 hour.

The determination of the time required for the complete dissolution of carboxymethyl cellulose is based on the following
1. Carboxymethyl cellulose and water are completely combined, and there is no solid-liquid separation between the two.
2. The batter after mixing is in a uniform state and the surface is smooth and smooth.
3. The color of the mixed paste is colorless and transparent, and there is no granular matter in the paste. It takes about 10 to 20 hours to put the carboxymethylcellulose in a mixing tank and mix it with water until the carboxymethylcellulose is completely dissolved. In order to increase production speed and save time, homogenizers or colloidal grinding are currently used to quickly disperse products.
