After the cellulose fibers are dried, they undergo a process called etherification. The etherification process involves the introduction of ether groups, such as methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl groups, into cellulose fibers. The method is carried out using the reaction of an etherification agent and an acid catalyst in the presence of a solvent. Reactions are usually carried out under carefully controlled conditions of temperature and pressure to ensure high product yields and purity.
