Construction Grade HPMC

Construction Grade HPMC

Construction Grade HPMC Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose is a methyl cellulose ether derivatives which is a synthetic high molecular polymer prepared by chemical modification of natural refined cotton or wood pulp as raw material. The production of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC)is different from synthetic polymers. Its basic material is cellulose, a natural polymer compound. Due to the special structure of natural cellulose, cellulose itself has no ability to react with etherifying agents. But after the swelling agent is treated, the strong hydrogen bonds between the molecular chains and within the chain are destroyed, and the active release of the hydroxyl group turns into reactive alkali cellulose. After the etherification agent reacts, the -OH group is converted to the -OR group. Finally get HPMC.

Construction Grade HPMC is a white powder that swells into a clear or slightly turbid colloidal solution in cold water. It has the characteristics of thickening, bonding, dispersion, emulsification, film formation, suspension, adsorption, gelation, surface activity, moisture retention and protective colloid.

Application guide:

Tile Adhesive

Water retention: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC can reduce the moisture absorbed by the substrate and tiles in the mortar, and keep the moisture in the binder as much as possible, so that the mortar remains bonded after a long period of time. . Extend the opening time, so that workers can coat a larger area each time, and improve construction efficiency.

Improve the bonding strength and improve the anti-slip performance: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC can ensure that the tiles will not slide during construction, especially for heavy tiles, marble and other stones.

Improved working performance: The lubricating performance of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC significantly improves the working performance of the mortar, making the mortar easier to comb and spread, and improving work efficiency.

Improve the wettability of the mortar: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC gives the mortar consistency, improves the wetting ability of the mortar with tiles and substrates, and improves the bonding force of the wet mortar, especially for formulations with high water-cement ratio.

External wall insulation system (EIFS)

Bonding strength: Adding an appropriate amount of HPMC hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can improve the bonding strength of the bonding mortar.

Work performance: The mortar added with HPMC hydroxypropyl methylcellulose has a proper consistency and does not sag. When in use, it makes the mortar easy to comb and is continuous and uninterrupted.

Water retention: Adding HPMC hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose can easily wet the wall insulation material, facilitate sticking, and make other additional materials achieve their due effects.

Water absorption: Adding an appropriate amount of HPMC hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can reduce air entrainment and reduce the water absorption of the mortar.

Wall putty

Easy to mix without agglomeration: In the process of adding water and stirring, HPMC hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose can reduce the friction in the dry powder, making mixing easier and saving mixing time.

Excellent water retention: HPMC Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can reduce the water absorbed by the wall. Good water retention, on the one hand, can ensure a longer hydration time for the cement, on the other hand, it can ensure that workers can scrape the putty on the wall multiple times.

Good construction stability: HPMC Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can still maintain good water retention in high temperature environments, so it is suitable for construction in summer or hot areas.

Increase the water requirement: HPMC Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose significantly increases the water requirement of the putty material. On the one hand, it increases the operating time of the putty on the wall. On the other hand, it can increase the coating area of the putty and make the formula more economical.

Joint filler

Workability: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose  provides suitable viscosity, good plasticity, and easy construction.

Water retention: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC can fully hydrate the slurry, prolong the construction time and avoid cracks.

Anti-sagging: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC can make the slurry adhere firmly to the surface without sagging.

Self-leveling mortar

Prevent bleeding: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can play a very good suspending effect and prevent the slurry from settling and bleeding.

Maintain fluidity and improve water retention: The low-viscosity hydroxypropyl methylcellulose will not affect the fluidity of the slurry and is convenient for construction. At the same time, it has a certain degree of water retention, so that the surface after self-leveling has a good effect and avoids cracks.

Gypsum-based plaster

Water retention: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose can retain the moisture in the mortar, so that the gypsum can be completely solidified. The higher the viscosity of the solution, the stronger the water retention capacity, and vice versa, the lower the water retention capacity.

Anti-sagging: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose allows the builder to apply a thicker coating without causing building ripples.

Mortar yield: For a fixed weight of dry mortar, the presence of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can produce more warm mortar volume

Ceramic extrusion molding

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can provide good lubricity and plasticity, and can fully provide the operability of ceramic product mold tires.

Low ash content can have a very dense internal structure after the product is calcined, and the surface of the product is round and delicate.

Main features:

Water retention of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC:

In the production of building materials, especially dry-mixed mortar, Construction grade HPMC hydroxypropyl methylcellulose plays an irreplaceable role, especially in the production of special modified mortar, it is an indispensable and important part.

The important role of water-soluble hydroxypropyl methylcellulose in mortar is mainly in three aspects. One is excellent water retention capacity, the other is the influence on the consistency and thixotropy of the mortar, and the third is the interaction with cement.
